Sonny Thet è nato in Cambogia e ha studiato il violoncello dal 1965 al 1969 presso la “Royal University for Fine Arts” di Phnom Penh. Il principe Sihanouk in persona lo ha poi inviato alla Music University “Franz Liszt” di Weimar, Germania.
